In Plain Sight

How often do you slow down to take notice of the craftsmanship of everyday fixtures? I wanted to conduct an exercise focusing on the intimate details of everyday objects that bear traces of human creativity. With In Plain Sight, I aim to isolate details in fixtures such as embossing, engraving, ornamental hardware, and architectural accents, turning functional elements into compositions of line, texture, and form.

As I took these photos, I focused on revealing the hidden visual richness in everyday objects that often go unnoticed. I considered how to encourage viewers to slow down and absorb the small details of beauty around them. I asked: What visual richness exists in ordinary objects when attention shifts from function to form and detail? As well as: How can photography encourage viewers to slow down and closely observe details that are usually ignored?

I hope that this work encourages viewers to slow down and absorb the beauty all around us. From rural towns to urban streets, there is a unique richness in craftsmanship and traces of human creativity in everyday fixtures. This richness often transcends generations, marking time. As we consider all who have passed by these features, this itself is encouragement to slow down and take notice. All who have taken notice of these details become a part of their unspoken story.
